Mission:
This department is responsible for
the collection of solid waste and brush generated by residents
and businesses in the City, including the City's
extra-territorial jurisdiction. The Department operates in
accordance with rules and regulations of the Environmental
Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality.
DESCRIPTION
This department is responsible for
the collection of solid waste for all residents and commercial
establishments for the City of Brownwood by utilizing collection
dumpsters of various sizes. The department collects solid waste
as follows:
Once per week for residential
dumpsters and twice per week for residential roll-out containers
and two to six times per week for commercial customers. Roll-off
dumpsters are available when requested by customer.
GOALS
To provide proper collection,
transportation and disposal of residential commercial and
industrial solid waste for the City of Brownwood in the most
cost-efficient methods possible. To promote health and safety to
the community by providing an environment free from hazards and
unpleasantness of uncollected solid waste, with the least
possible inconvenience to the citizens.
OBJECTIVES
1.
Continue to repair and maintain all damaged or worn dumpsters
and upgrade to new when possible.
2. Pickup brush, bagged leaves, bagged grass clippings, and
debris as requested by, residents in a timelier manner.
3. Assist in City-wide cleanup twice per year in cooperation
with “Keep Brownwood Beautiful”.
4. Continue to provide necessary training for all department
personnel.
Brush and Bulky Item Collection
Brush and bulky items are collected by request, from
residents at no charge. Residential (non-commercial)
customers my call 643-4200 to request the service during
normal business hours, after hours they may leave a
message. A link has been posted on the Sanitation
Department’s web page to allow residents to request the
service.

following rules apply:
1. Items must be left at the curb or placed in the alley
if trash is collected from the alley.
2. City employees are not permitted to go on private
property to collect these items.
3. Items to be collected must be segregated according to
type; brush, furniture or metals. Mixed piles will not
be collected.
4. This service is not available to: Commercial
Customers, Apartments, Schools, Churches, Evictions, or
Storage Units.
5. Waste shall be stacked away from mail boxes, fences,
poles, cars, and low hanging wires.

lengths or less, no stumps or root balls and not mixed

Items Not Collected By the City of Brownwood:
Anything With a Title of Ownership (automobile chassis,
motorcycles, trailers, boats, etc.)
Any Waste that is Banned for Disposal in a Type I
Landfill.

Construction and Remodeling Debris (includes carpet,
plywood, bricks, rocks, aggregate, cinder block, stone,
mortar, sand, sheet rock, insulation, flooring,
shingles, siding, steel roofing, glass mirrors, lumber).
Hazardous Materials (paints, solvents, etc).
Tires (of any kind)* Accepted at the recycling center

free of charge at the recycling center if free of wire,
dirt and rocks)

Not all waste or recyclables are accepted at the
landfill and recycling center. Please call the landfill
at 646-6574 and the recycling center at 641-8832 for
